There are many regulation in the world requesting declaration or limitation of substance content in products: REACH, RoHS, … To know if a substance is contained above or below the regulated threshold, a method to measure the substance
must be used. This is why TC111 is developing standardized test methods for these regulated substances. By using this standardized methods, the measurements are comparable. This is a real benefit for the industry.
TC111 has 2 groups to develop these methods:
WG3 and JWG14
IEC/TC111/JWG 14
ISO/IEC double logo standardization for Test methods of certain substances in polymers
Established in 2019 February between IEC/TC 111 & ISO/TC 61(Plastics) / SC 5 (Physical and chemical property)
Initiative project of JWG 14; IEC 62321-11 “Determination of certain substances in electrotechnical products – Part 11: Tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) in polymers and electronics by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)”
Future of the work
Short term: 2020
Harmonize with IEC/TC 111/WG 3 and ISO/TC 61/SC 5
Long term: 3-5 years
Harmonization between WG 3/JWG 14 and Others TC, development of more substances testing standards, find a way to collaborate with test labs, have a Conformity Assessment scheme in place, ….
